Chris Hemsworth Reportedly Close To Retiring Amid Alzheimer Risk

Chris Hemsworth has already been taking it slow amid learning he’s at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease while doing genetic tests on his National Geographic series, Limitless, and while the actor has been keeping up with his current workload, a new report states he may be close to retiring altogether.

The report from Page Six claims that Hemsworth, who is popularly known for being Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has dramatically reduced the roles he’s taking in films since his huge Alzheimer risk scare.

The 39-year-old Aussie actor learned while filming his docuseries Limitless with Chris Hemsworth that his DNA consisted of two copies of the gene APOE4, which came from his mother and father. The gene is linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, and considering that having two in one’s DNA is extremely rare, Hemsworth’s “biggest fear” has come true.

In spite of Hemsworth’s current circumstance, this did not hinder the actor in continuing to pursue his Hollywood roles, just sent to a minimal wind down. However, Page Six’s industry sources claim that Hemsworth’s line of projects is already hinting that the actor’s career is in jeopardy.

It is important to take this with a grain of salt, seeing as Hemsworth himself has yet to confirm nor deny this report on his behalf. As of writing, Chris Hemsworth’s projects include: Netflix’s Extraction 2 where Hemsworth reprises the role of Tyler Rake, even though his character was previously deemed dead in the first Extraction film. Apart from this, the actor is also set to appear in Furiosa, the prequel spinoff to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

It is worth mentioning that Hemsworth initially debunked the idea of retiring just because of his Alzheimer’s warning, in which he spoke with Vanity Fair to outrightly say he is “not talking about retiring by any means.” Although he did admit that there was an “intensity” after finding out the results he received last November.

The actor said he was “eight to ten times more likely to battle Alzheimer’s than others” which “triggered something in me”, emphasizing his plans on his career and life: “I’ve been completing the things that I was already contracted to do” and “go home and… have a good chunk of time off and just simplify [to] be with the kids, be with my wife.”
