Chris Hemsworth Confirms Career Hiatus Following Health Warning

Chris Hemsworth has been working non-stop for a long time now but the Thor: Love and Thunder star has confirmed he is finally ready to take a break. Hemsworth revealed that he is taking time off from his career to stay with his family and reconsider his life ahead following a health warning.

In his new National Geographic series Limitless, Chris Hemsworth went through several genetic tests that ultimately unveiled his "biggest fear." It was revealed that Hemsworth's DNA makeup includes two copies of the gene APOE4, one from his mother and the other from his father. According to several studies, the gene has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and having two in one's DNA is extremely rare.

Although it is not a hard Alzheimer's diagnosis, Chris Hemsworth admitted to Vanity Fair that it is cause for concern that led to him choosing to spend more time with his family.

“Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me go, 'Oh God, I'm not ready to go yet.' I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude,” Hemsworth said. “And then you start talking about kids and family and going, 'Oh my God, they're getting older, they're growing up and I keep slapping another movie on top of another movie.' Before you know it, they're 18 and they've moved out of house, and I missed the window.”

“It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I've been completing the things I was already contracted to do,” he continued. “Now when I finish this tour this week, I'm going home and I'm going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.”

It's certainly a well-deserved time off considering that Chris Hemsworth has been working a lot for some time now. Although he will not be working for some time, he has several new projects that are set to be released in the future.

Hemsworth will play Dr. Dementus in the Mad Max prequel Furiosa which is scheduled for release on May 24, 2024.
