It’s fair to say that fans were shaken by the recent Chainsaw Man episode’s events. And while many were in disbelief as the credits rolled, some eagle-eyed fans spotted Look Back and Goodbye, Eri easter eggs in the Chainsaw Man Episode 8 ending.
On Twitter, some fans noticed that the latest episode’s ending animation features nods to creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s previous works.
This is no surprise given that the opening credits also feature a reference to the author’s other manga.
Look Back and Goodbye, Eri – Tatsuki Fujimoto's Other Critically Acclaimed Works
In case you’re unfamiliar, Look Back and Goodbye, Eri are two one-shot manga titles by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man.
Look Back was released on Jump+ on July 19, 2021. Its story follows Ayumu Fujino, an aspiring manga artist.
The story begins with Fujino as an elementary school student who draws manga for her school’s paper.
Soon, she feels challenged by Kyomoto, another student whom Fujino feels is even more talented than her.
Their paths cross in the next events, shaping the next phase of their lives.
While Look Back might not have the action-heavy premise of Chainsaw Man, the manga still drew praise for its unique art style and coming-of-age story.
Goodbye, Eri is Fujimoto’s next one-shot which was released on Jump+ on April 11, 2022.
This manga follows Yuta, a young aspiring filmmaker who begins creating a movie about his terminally ill mother.
After finishing the movie, Yuta screens it at his school, but its ending was met with negative reactions.
Losing his will to live, Yuta decides to end himself, but he is stopped by a mysterious girl named Eri. After this encounter, Yuta decides to make another film.
Much like Look Back, this one-shot from Fujimoto was met with critical acclaim for its impressive paneling and touching story.

Chainsaw Man Episode 8 Ending Song, Easter Eggs
The latest episode’s ending features unique animation along with the song First Death by TK.
Many anime fans know TK as he is the singer of the iconic Tokyo Ghoul opening song Unravel.
While the ending featured lots of references to the latest Chainsaw Man events, it also has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it reference to Fujimoto’s one-shots.
Specifically, fans spotted the cover art of both Look Back and Goodbye, Eri on a wall behind Power.
While it’s hard to make out when you watch it, you can see the covers when you pause at the right moment.
This isn’t the first time the anime’s ending featured an easter egg like this.
For instance, it's also widely believed that Episode 5’s ending featured a teaser for Reze, an upcoming character in the anime.
Given this, you may want to watch closely the ending of the next Chainsaw Man episode for more possible easter eggs.
