A video of Meghan Markle speaking Spanish has gone viral, hinting at Prince Harry’s wife’s ability to speak different languages. So, is it real that the Duchess of Sussex can fluently speak Spanish, and where did she learn it?

Meghan can reportedly speak three languages: English, Spanish, and French. Aside from her native language of English, she’s also seen speaking Spanish several times in public.

Meghan Markle Flexed Her Spanish Speaking Ability

When the former actress visited Homeboy Industries in 2020 with her husband, she showed her Spanish-speaking ability.

The group’s founder Father Greg Boyle told People at the time about the female royal’s surprising talent.

"[She] spoke Spanish perfectly with one young woman,” he said. “She just went right into Spanish, which was a revelation—and it was very good.”

Where Did Meghan Markle Learn Speaking Spanish?

According to Elle, Meghan honed her Spanish-speaking skills during her college years. She spent her intern years at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, one summer.

The internship was reportedly part of her degree in International Relations, where knowing a foreign language was a must and could be useful in the future.

In her official biography, she learned to speak Spanish in Argentina and now speaks fluent Spanish.

She also studied French for six years, showing her French-speaking skills during her tour of Morocco with Prince Harry when she talked to two girls.

However, the former Suits star seemed a little shy about her ability to talk in French, calling it very high school.

Growing Up Speaking Spanish

Meghan has been seen speaking Spanish in public several times. Spanish speakers say she can talk Spanish perfectly.

The former senior royal grew up in Los Angeles, where Spanish is a commonly spoken language. Hence, she might have taken Spanish classes in school when she was young.

Also, as she learned most of Spanish while in Argentina, she seemed to have an Argentine accent. So aside from learning the language, she was also surrounded by native speakers every day at the time.

Some reports claimed Meghan attended a study abroad program in Madrid, Spain, during her college years.
