BTS Earns Multiple 2021 MTV Awards Nominations, Competes With BLACKPINK, TWICE, SEVENTEEN and (G)I-DLE For Best K-Pop Award

Nominees for the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be held on Sept. 12 in New York City's Barclays Center, were made known to the public Wednesday. BTS, which is composed of Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, RM, J-Hope, Suga and V, has set new records again after they nabbed a total of five nominations.

BTS Earns Multiple Nods In 2021 MTV Video Music Awards

BTS is vying for the Song of The Year award for their record-breaking track "Dynamite," which was released on August 21, 2020. The said upbeat disco-pop song became an instant hit worldwide as it was able to garner a whopping 7.778 million streams on the global Spotify chart during its first 24 hours.

Not only that because "Dynamite" by BTS also debuted at No. 6 on the Gaon Digital Chart and rose to the No. 1 spot weeks later. In Japan, the said song debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and peaked at No. 2.

In the U.S., "Dynamite" dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart for several weeks, becoming the K-pop group's first number-one single in America. The group of Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, RM, J-Hope, Suga and V also became the first South Korean act to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 history.

BTS will have to beat other American music acts to get the Song of the Year award including Olivia Rodrigo for her hit track "drivers license," Dua Lipa for "Levitating," Cardi B ft. Megan Thee Stallion for "WAP," Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic for "Leave The Door Open" and 24kGoldn ft. iann dior for "Mood."

The all-boy band is also vying for the Best Pop award for their song "Butter," alongside Taylor Swift for "willow," Shaw Mendes for "Wonder," Olivia Rodrigo for "good 4 u," Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar, Giveon for "Peaches," Harry Styles for "Treat People with Kindness," Billie Eilish for "Therefore I Am," and Ariana Grande for "positions."

BTS is also nominated in the Best Choreography category, again, for "Butter." Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, RM, J-Hope, Suga and V will be competing with Ariana Grande ("34+35"), Ed Sheeran ("Bad Habits"), Foo Fighters ("Shame Shame"), Harry Styles ("Treat People With Kindness") and Marshmello & Halsey ("Be Kind") for the award.

"Butter" by BTS was also named as one of the nominees in the Best Editing category, together with "Leave The Door Open" by Bruno Mars, Anderson . Paak and Silk Sonic, "What's Next" by Drake, "Treat People With Kindness" by Harry Styles, "Peaches" by Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar and Giveon, and "Prisoner" by Miley Cyrus ft. Dua Lipa.

Interestingly, BTS will also have to face other South Korean bands for the Best K-Pop award. This year, Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, RM, J-Hope, Suga and V were nominated in the said category for their popular track "Butter."
