Brie Larson Teases The Marvels Will Show Different Sides of Captain Marvel

There is no doubt that watching the 3 Captain Marvels in one film is bound to be one of the biggest and highly anticipated Marvel films, seeing as the Captain Marvel sequel will band up Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), as well as WandaVision star Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). While it was initially titled Captain Marvel 2, it was eventually finalized to be The Marvels, seemingly more fitting.

During the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson teases a bit of sneak peeks on what to expect in 2023’s The Marvels. You can watch the whole interview here. The actor elaborates what it was like working with Iman Vellani, and Larson had nothing but praises for her younger co-star, “She’s the best, she’s the absolute best. Inside and out. I adore her.”

Considering that The Marvels’ official synopsis teased what’s in store for the 3 Captain Marvels, which is dealing with a ‘destabilized universe’ and teaming up together to save the universe, Larson’s description pretty much fits what we got so far: “It’s a converging of a bunch of different things at once, and so you’re following these three incredible characters that have their own trials and tribulations and things to—ways to grow. And then the way that they grow as a team.”

Larson ends the interview by describing what Carol Danvers’ journey would be like in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, and surely enough, the actor describes Carol as being a ‘more nuanced’ and ‘more complicated’ character than its first introduction to the MCU.

“Well, these two characters bring out, I think, different sides of Carol we haven’t seen before. Now that we’re past the point of just explaining who she is, her powers, her past origin story — now we can actually get into more nuance, more complication. And it’s been really, really fun to get to go back into this character and see what else is there.”

The Marvels is slated for release in theaters on July 28, 2023.
