As reported by Deadline, Lionsgate announced during the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con event that the film adaptation of Borderlands is set to release in theaters on August 9, 2024.

The long-gestated movie will arrive during the late summer period which has been a hit-or-miss when you look back at the history of the blockbusters that were released during this period.

The film's synopsis reads: "Lilith, an infamous treasure hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the universe’s most powerful S.O.B."

"She forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits – Roland, once a highly respected soldier, but now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina, a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg, Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis, the scientist who’s seen it all; and Claptrap, a persistently wiseass robot."

"These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power," the synopsis continues. "The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other."

This is certainly an exciting announcement for fans who have been looking forward to the film after the lack of updates surrounding its release and now they can anticipate for at least more than a year before they can watch it on the big screen.

Now that a release date has been set yet, it is likely now that the first trailer will be released by the end of the year or early next year to hype up the audience.
