One of the upcoming films that are currently on its way is the film adaptation of the hit video game Borderlands. Despite already being shot back in early 2021, we still have not heard any updates about its release and Lionsgate has not set a date yet for its arrival in theaters.
Now, as it turns out, the film is set to undergo two weeks of reshoots soon. However, there will be a different person on the helm as a report from One Take News revealed that Deadpool director Tim Miller has stepped in to oversee the upcoming reshoots instead of its actual director Eli Roth.
You might be wondering: Why is Roth not handling the reshoots and what is his status in the project? Rest assured, he has not been fired and he has given Miller the blessing to oversee the additional photography. He won't able to helm it himself due to scheduling conflicts.
An additional report from Deadline gave more insights into Roth's absence in the reshoots where they revealed that he is currently prepping for another film project that is set to begin production very soon which is Thanksgiving, based on the mock trailer that he made for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse film.
While this could be concerning for some fans, it sounds like we have really nothing to worry about the behind-the-scene changes on the reshoots since Roth is still involved in the film overall and this is really just a matter of circumstance regarding the scheduling since they didn't match with the actors.
Based on the hit video game, the film focuses on Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, who reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B. Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, Tannis, and Claptrap. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.
The film stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Haley Bennett, Edgar Ramirez, Gina Gerson, Bobby Lee, Janina Gavankar, and Cheyenne Jackson. Roth co-wrote the screenplay with The Last of Us series showrunner Craig Mazin.

Lionsgate has not set a release date yet for the Borderlands movie.
