Over the span of less than a year, Yaguchi came a long, long way, going from a purposeless honors student to a competent and brave art school candidate. But what is his weakness? As Oba-sensei indicated in the previous episode, art students can be their own worst enemies.

As a slice of life anime, Blue Period is perfect at transferring the characters' feelings right to the viewers' hearts. Their experiences are relatable to anyone who had to fight for a dream.

Blue Period Episode 8 is going to be very intense, whether or not Yatora passes his exam. Here's everything you need to know to catch up with it, from its release date and release time to an Episode 7 recap!

Blue Period Episode 7 Recap

Oba-sensei studies her art students' profiles, considering their chances of success. She recognizes that Yaguchi made a lot of progress at a short notice, but finds in him a weakness that could be detrimental for him in the exams.

As she tells him in their one-to-one meeting, his discipline, selfless nature, and desire to please could work against him in art school exams. Indeed, Yaguchi has spent a long time taking classes he disliked to please his family and telling his teachers what they wanted to hear. Oba explains that these qualities are helpful elsewhere, but not in art exams, and asks him to be a bit more selfish.

Yaguchi contemplates her words, but only truly understands her when he has a late, spontaneous dinner with his high-school friend, Koi. The latter wasn't expected to continue studying. However, when Yaguchi asks him whether he found a job, Koi simply announces that he'll go into vocational training as a patissier. Yaguchi is surprised, as this doesn't sound like his gruff, matter-of-fact friend.

Through their conversation, it becomes apparent that, sometimes, it's best to pursue one's interest without pomp and big announcements that could be criticized and discouraged. Koi mentions his surprise when Yaguchi chose art school, as he never had that approach; he used to be all about pleasing others and abiding by rules.

Yaguchi feels better after their encounter, and goes into his exams with heightened self-awareness - but still very much himself, as he isn't as willing to bend the rules as others. The exam begins, much to the stress of everyone involved. Ryuji, however, ominously draws a huge X and leaves the room.
