In a season that has already suffered multiple delays, another anime title got postponed, and this time, it’s a movie. Recently, it was announced that Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King has been delayed to June.

This upcoming Black Clover movie was originally scheduled to release in cinemas in Japan in late March.

It was also set to release on streaming platforms worldwide on the same day. But now, both cinema and streaming releases have been moved.

Winter 23 Anime Series Delays

In case there was any doubt, the sheer number of anime delays has all but proven that Winter 23 is a cursed season.

Earlier today, even the Spy Classroom anime’s eighth episode has been delayed, though only by a week at least.

But earlier this week, BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense Season 2 has also been delayed.

Specifically, the show’s seventh episode is delayed by two weeks. While Episodes 8-10 are set to follow, the last two episodes have no return date yet.

The Winter 23 delays began in January with NieR: Automata Ver1.1a, which got an unexpected hiatus following its third episode.

This was followed by a delay to Ayakashi Triangle, another Aniplex-produced series.

But perhaps one of the most deeply affected shows is Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible. After Episode 6, the anime has gone on a hiatus.

It will then restart in the Spring 23 season, with the first six episodes being re-aired in April.

Now, even an upcoming anime movie has been hit by a delay, this time the Black Clover movie.

Originally, the movie was going to be released in Japanese cinemas on March 31.

While the movie hasn’t gotten a cinema release announcement outside Japan yet, Black Clover fans would’ve gotten to watch it on March 31 as well via Netflix.

Today, the Black Clover movie’s official Twitter account revealed that its release has been moved to June 16, 2023.

Netflix soon confirmed that the film’s streaming release is also moved to June 16.

As with practically all the Winter 23 delays, the spread of COVID-19 has been blamed for the film’s release being pushed back.

Previously, it seemed that only seasonal anime shows are getting hit with delays.

But now that even an anime movie has been affected, it won’t be surprising to see even more titles get postponed in the coming weeks.
