Beyblade Live-Action Film In the Works from Pirates of the Caribbean Producer

There is no doubt that Beyblade is one of the most popular toy lines in the world ever since its introduction in 1999. It has also become a multimedia entity as it spawned into manga, anime series, video games, animated films, and real-life tournaments. Now, it looks like the franchise is expanding into new territory.

Deadline has reported that Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer is developing a live-action feature film based on the Beyblade toys for Paramount Pictures. Neil Widener and Gavin James are writing the screenplay, but the plot details are under wraps for now. There is also no director or actor attached to the project as of the moment.

In case you're not familiar, Beyblade is a line of spinning-top toys originally developed by Takara (now Takara Tomy) and released in Japan in 1999. In 2002, Hasbro began selling Beyblade toys in the international market along with localized versions of the anime series in several countries. It has also spawned iterations such as Metal Fight Beyblade and Beyblade Burst.

Given that several toy lines like Transformers, He-Man, and G.I. Joe were able to have their own film adaptations, it's not surprising that Beyblade is now also being spawned into a film franchise and it is popular enough to warrant a possible box office success and interest from the general audience. Bruckheimer is also a successful producer who has mounted several projects that ended up becoming a hit franchise such as Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure, and Bad Boys so Beyblade also has the potential to have the same success under his guidance.

However, the question now is what will live-action feature film be about, and where it will be set? Will it follow a group of kids who are competing in a Beyblade tournament? Will it be set in the United States? There are a lot of possibilities story-wise when it comes to the film adaptation and there is also the universality when it comes to Beyblade so it could appeal to the global audience no matter what kind of story they are going to take. It would be interesting to see where the project will go and if it will eventually get made.
