Batwoman Fan Art Imagines Emma Stone Joining the DCU

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe has hundreds of roles to cast, and despite Hollywood having a roster of actors to choose from, fans' eyes are usually set on specific stars that they want to assume the roles of their favorite comic characters. One of fans’ ways to see if an actor fits the bill to play a character is to visualize them through concept art. Emma Stone, who recently starred as Cruella de Vil, became the DCEU’s new Batwoman in awesome fan art.

A recent work from digital artist horrific.heroics imagines Stone as the new face of Kate Kane’s Batwoman. Despite having multiple versions of her story, Batwoman is a vicious vigilante and an out-of-the-closet lesbian who some assume has had relationships with various women. She is known for her blood-red hair and a crimson bat symbol across her chest. No one knows her origin, but many presume she is associated with Batman.

Despite a nearly 70-year comic book history, it took a while for Batwoman to make her first live-action appearance with The CW's Arrowverse. Fans witnessed Kate's early appearances in 52 Weeks as she established herself as a relative newcomer to the DC continuity. With Gunn and Safran currently working on a 10-year plan for the DC Universe's future, many are wondering if Batwoman will ever make it to the big screen.

Kate’s presence in the DC universe was well celebrated by the majority given that she was the company's first openly homosexual major character. She gradually became more established in mainstream DC culture, eventually becoming a respected hero and a member of the Justice League of America. Fans are expecting that things will remain the same under DC’s new management.

DC’s new slate is yet to be announced by the studios’ co-CEOs, and since no one knows what the announcement will contain, fans can only assume that Gotham's Bat-family will be included. Despite the hint that Batman will continue to play an important role in the DCU's future with distinction and reservation, no word on other related characters possibly making an appearance has been released, particularly for Batwoman.

The new DCU has the chance to offer a unique take by providing Batman with his popular comic book allies because there's no reason why Batwoman and other key members of the Bat family couldn't translate well to film. With Gunn set to make his first official DC Universe announcements later this month, it will be interesting to see if Batwoman makes the final cut, and the La La Land star is sure to be open to a phone call.
