Batwoman Co-Creator Comments on Ruby Rose's Hiring

Ruby Rose, who fans know from Orange is The New Black, John Wick: Chapter Two, and The Meg is officially going to play Kate Kane in CW's Batwoman. This has gotten a mixed response from fans, with some happy that the character is being properly presented while others feel that Rose isn't a strong enough actress for the role.

Then there's Greg Rucka, the man who co-created Batwoman with J.H. Williams III for DC Comics. Rucka introduced the character during his stellar Detective Comics run and he had an interesting response to Rose's casting. Instead of being overly giddy, Rucka has stayed calm about the announcement, noting on Twitter how he likes Rose as an actress but he is waiting to see how the CW will handle the superhero he co-created.

Honestly, this is a pretty good response since the CW has a mixed track record when it comes to representing DC characters. While Green Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl have been treated alright, others like Black Canary could be used a lot better. Considering how the character will be headlining her own show, we can only hope the writers treat her with respect.

Batwoman is expected to debut on the CW in 2019 or 2020. The character will first appear in this December's annual CW-DC crossover, which hasn't been named yet.
