Orange is The New Black and The Meg Star Cast as CW's Batwoman

In a move that will please many, the CW has cast Ruby Rose for the upcoming Batwoman show coming to the network. The character herself will be premiering in a crossover featuring Arrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, so she should make quite the impact. Getting Rose is a big deal and will make plenty of fans happy, whether they know her from her previous work or not.

Reported by Variety, Rose is expected to headline Batwoman sometime after the big crossover. Caroline Dries will serve as the writer and executive producer on that project, while Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce via Berlanti Productions. Geoff Johns will also be an executive producer.

Most fans probably know Rose from her role as Stella in the Netflix hit Orange is the New Black and recently starred in The Meg. She's also a lesbian in real life, so the casting choice is a good one. While there isn't anything inherently wrong with straight people portraying LGBTQ characters, there is a severe lack of representation for that community so it's nice seeing an actual lesbian character portrayed by someone of that sexual preference.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, she soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

Expect more news on Batwoman soon.
