Thanks to this encouraging news, James Cameron recently admitted in an interview on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? (via Variety) that he has “no choice” but to “do the other sequels”:

“It looks like with the momentum that the film has now, that we’ll easily pass our ‘break even’ in the next few days, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this and I’m gonna have to do the other sequels.” Cameron continued on to say, “I know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years.”

Given that Cameron had already worked on his Avatar franchise scripts all the way to Avatar 5, it can be surmised that he already has the sequels lined up, especially with the commitment of his cast members. Recently, the Avatar creator even revealed that Avatar 3, which is expected to debut on December 20, 2024, will not only introduce more Pandora regions but even feature fire-wielding Na’vis, the “darker” side of them.

For now, Avatar: The Way of Water is still showing in theaters worldwide.
