Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney used to be the closest friends, but everything changed when the Duchess of Sussex got involved in a scandal that the latter had. So, are these two still friends?

Meghan and Jessica used to travel the world together and even pursued their dreams hand in hand. Jessica was even one of the former actress' special guests at her royal wedding with Prince Harry in 2018, but what happened to their friendship?

The Change in Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney's Friendship

According to Us Weekly, the two's friendship turned sour after the Sussexes stepped down from their senior royal roles in 2020.

The former Good Morning America personality then faced public scrutiny when the influencer Sasha Exeter called her out for her alleged "very problematic behavior and antics" within the fashion community.

Jessica later apologized and used her friendship with Meghan to her advantage by mentioning her closest friend's race.

"As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre," she wrote on Instagram in response to Exeter's claims. "It was deeply educational. I learned a lot from that. I promise to continue to learn and listen on how I can use my privilege to elevate and support Black voices."

A source told Us that the former Suits star didn't like being involved in the issue.

"Meghan could not get over that Jessica brought up her relationship with Meghan when she commented about her 'closest friend' in the discourse with Sasha," the insider said. "That was hugely offensive to Meghan and the deciding factor for her. Meghan considers the relationship to be done."

Meghan Markle and Jessica Mulroney Remain Friends

But despite everything that has been said and done, Pop Sugar noted that the two women remain close.

Though Jessica isn't part of Prince Harry and Meghan's docuseries, Harry & Meghan, she's featured in some of the footage.

Though no one has addressed the claims about their friendship, Entertainment Tonight contended that Meghan "remains loyal to her dear friend."

"While Jessica's comments have been misguided and tone-deaf, Meghan has not given up on her," an insider said.

Jessica, alternatively, revealed the status of their friendship in a post on Instagram Stories.

"I'm going to tell this once and for all. Meghan and I are family. She is the kindest friend and has checked up on me everyday." she wrote. "Tabloid culture is atrocious. It creates lies and hurtful storyline. Stop feeding into it. Done."

The source also said that Jessica already publicly apologized for the controversy and is now on a journey to better herself and "become aware of the unconscious bias that exists in society."
