The superhero genre mostly caters to a younger audience, but it’s worth mentioning that things aren't always cookie-cutter when it comes to comic book movies and Marvel and DC can sometimes change the tone of their films, something we've seen in the past.

While Marvel is commonly known for having an overall lighter and more comedic theme, DC projects lean more toward having darker stories that may be more suitable for a mature audience.

Now that Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry is returning in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the Black Manta gets his second chance at getting his revenge against the Atlantean hero.

The question remains, though, will the age rating be suitable for kids to watch?

What is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Rated? Is It Safe For Kids To Watch?

As of writing, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has no age rating yet, however, considering the events of what happened in the first film involving battle scenes between Aquaman and Mera against the Black Manta, we have a pretty good idea of where the sequel might be heading.

The first Aquaman film involved plenty of mature scenes such as fighting sequences that may not be suitable for kids to watch. An example of this is when a pipe was thrown through a man’s shoulder and ended up getting trapped under a torpedo.

There is visible blood on actors when getting injured in the middle of fighting, and it doesn’t help that Atlanteans use tridents to fend themselves off from enemies.

Not to mention, there are also scenes where explosives are being shown on screen, dangerous stunts that impressionable young audiences might mistake for being ‘safe to try out at home’.

If we take into account how The Flash and Blue Beetle have had many moments leaning on suggestive jokes and comments only adults would understand, Aquaman 2 has a slight chance of including a couple of similar scenes like this.

Especially since Arthur Curry and Mera are now taking care of their firstborn, there might be kissing scenes and love scenes that kids below the age of 13-16 are now allowed to see.

So, Is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Suitable For Kids To Watch?

Since there is no definite age rating released by DC Studios and Warner Bros. yet, if the same scenes in the 2018 Aquaman film are projected in the sequel, there’s a possibility that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is getting a PG-13, as well.

Based on the official trailer, though, Arthur Curry would have to watch his back more, given that he now has his own family to look after, all the while having to balance his job of being the King of Atlantis City.

While it’s implied that Aquaman 2 is a family-themed superhero film, most DC comic book fans are well aware of the tragic fate Arthur and Mera are about to face in the sequel.
