Sony has been quite busy expanding their Spider-Man Universe, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse nearing its release date this year, along with Venom 3 currently in development. Another project that is set to center around another version of the webslinger is El Muerto, which will star Bad Bunny aka Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio as the titular character.

Now, while updates on the development of El Muerto remain non-existent, Screen Geek claims that Ana De Armas is reportedly being eyed to be the female lead in Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff! While this has yet to be confirmed by Sony, should Ana be casted in El Muerto, the film is bound to be the actress’ first ever role in a superhero film.

Ana De Armas is known for her previous roles in Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out, among others, including Netflix’s Blonde as the film’s Marilyn Monroe. There is no doubt that Ana’s fluidity when it comes to transforming into her characters in her roles would play a huge advantage in depicting the female lead in the Spider-Man spinoff.

Sony’s El Muerto was initially scheduled to be released on January 12, 2024, however, given that the film is in no shape to reach its deadline on time, it is possible that the Spider-Man spinoff will be moved to a later date. Even the spinoff’s plot details are being kept under wraps.

Although, it is worth mentioning that the comic book character is a Mexican wrestler whose supernatural abilities get passed down from generation to generation.

With little to no clue on how this would line up with Sony’s other projects such as Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web, there’s a bright side on this end: if El Muerto does come to fruition, this is going to be the first Marvel adaptation to be led by a Latino character.
