86: Eighty-Six finally returned with Episode 20, following another week-long hiatus. The studio's technical difficulties might be a bit tiring, but I have to say, the newest episode was worth the wait. The anime is really good at alternating between action and emotional moments.

This time, 12-episode second cour went for a much-needed breather, giving us some of the show's most beautifully painful moments.

But the final battle with Kiriya is only a breath away, so keep reading. Below you'll find everything you need to know about 86: Eighty-Six Episode 21 (Or 86 Season 2 Episode 10 depending on who you ask), including the release date and release time for the beloved mecha anime!

86: Eighty-Six Anime Episode 20 Recap

Warning: Spoilers for 86 Episode 20 below!

Episode 20 finally addressed Shin's mental state following his countless battles. As he and his friends keep going after Morpho with Frederica, it becomes apparent that Shin doesn't intend to survive. Raiden confronts him about his risky behavior in the previous battles, urging him to take Frederica and go.

As Shin refuses, he and Raiden fight. Raiden reminds him that they're still a unit and they'll all support him if he needs it. However, it's clear that Shin doesn't care about dying in battle even as he wants his friends to survive.

The group has a few relaxed moments in beautiful scenery, and Frederica talks about the sea, which they hope to all see together after the battle. At night, Frederica confided in Shin that she worries about the future. As much as she wants Kiriya to find peace, she's afraid of losing her sense of purpose along with him.

Shin admits that following his near-death experience yeats ago, he has felt no desires. In that, he sees himself as a ghost, not really different from the legion. Frederica insists that it's brave that he looked his uncertain, seemingly purposeless future in the eye. Shin doesn't seem ready to understand that yet. Since the first cour, he's come a long way, becoming free of his brother and making a new life for himself. Realizing that this isn't enough to erase his trauma makes him very human and vulnerable. Let's hope that a possibility of healing is still there for him, as the anime really makes you root for him and want him to get better.
