Star Trek Icon Brent Spiner Announces Autobiography with a Twist

Data's story might finally be over in the Star Trek Universe but that doesn't mean Brent Spiner will no longer be a busy man. The Star Trek: The Next Generation icon has just confirmed he will release a new memoir with a twist.

Spiner announced his fictionalized autobiography Fan Fiction: A Mem-Noir: Inspired by True Events, which is described as "a mostly made-up, somewhat true story of how a young Brent Spiner receives a mysterious package and a series of letters that send him on an adventure to stop the danger that has his life and career hanging in the balance."

That sounds exciting, but is it a real autobiography or is it just fiction? Spiner explained to Syfy Wire that it's actually both.

"It's a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but it's primarily fiction," Spiner said. "There are slices of my own life in it, and then there are also people I have known…it's a mashup: It's a thriller, it's a comedy, it's a dark comedy. And it's partially a memoir, but none of it's real, really, even though a lot of things actually happened."

We're not exactly surprised that Spiner is releasing an autobiography, albeit a fictional one. After all, his TNG co-star Patrick Stewart had written a memoir last year but we think it's cool that Spiner did his book in a truly unique way.

Spiner and Picard had recently worked together on Star Trek: Picard. Although the series already gave Spiner's Data a proper send-off, there are speculations that he will be back in the second season. Stay tuned for updates on this story.

Fan Fiction: A Mem-Noir: Inspired by True Events will be released on Oct. 5, 2021.
