It looks like Benedict Cumberbatch will go from being the Sorcerer Supreme to a real-life illusionist. The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star has just been confirmed to team up with Colin Trevorrow on the adaptation of the book War Magician.
Deadline reports that Cumberbatch and Trevorrow have signed on to Studiocanal's World War II film. E. Nicholas Mariani will pen the screenplay based on the David Fisher novel.
War Magician will be based on the story of real-life illusionist Jasper Maskelyne who used magic to trick Erwin Rommell during the Second World War. Interestingly, the adaptation will include "an international 'magic gang' from Africa, Europe and the Middle East who conspired with Maskelyne and a female military intelligence officer to defeat the Nazis."
They may be major names in Hollywood but this is the first time that Cumberbatch and Trevorrow will be working together. It's an interesting project for both of them and we're looking forward to seeing this drama soon.
For now, it is still unclear when the film will begin production. Trevorrow has just wrapped up filming on Jurassic World: Dominion. Cumberbatch is also hard at work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, there is a possibility that War Magician will start production by next year. Cumberbatch returns in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which premieres on March 25, 2022. Trevorrow's Jurassic World: Dominion is scheduled for release on June 10, 2022.
