WandaVision Showrunner Reveals Scarlet Witch's Shocking Alternate Ending

WandaVision might be over but fans still couldn't stop talking about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe series revealed a prophecy about Scarlet Witch. Interestingly, this particular detail almost made for a terrifying alternate ending for Wanda Maximoff.

In WandaVision, Agatha Harkness tells Wanda about the Scarlet Witch who is mentioned in the Darkhold as the one person who will destroy the world. It's a shocking revelation for Wanda as Agatha confirms that whoever controls Chaos Magic is the Scarlet Witch and points out that Wanda is the only one to do so.

Luckily, WandaVision concluded with Wanda defeating Agatha and taking down the Hex. However, showrunner Jac Schaeffer has just revealed that the series almost explored the prophecy as an alternate ending.

"The prophecy had to do with her destroying the world," Schaeffer told Vanity Fair. "So she's fighting her identity as the Scarlet Witch because she doesn't want to be the person who destroys the world. That was the thing that she was really, really afraid of."

It could have been a scary thing for the series. However, Schaeffer was quick to point out that the idea "just got very restrictive." With that in mind, they decided that WandaVision should simply end with the Hex being taken down.

But will we ever get to find out if Scarlet Witch is capable of destroying the world? Schaeffer stated that the prophecy "would be part of her trajectory and the next piece of her story."

This certainly sounds like something that could once again be teased upon in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Will Scarlet Witch become the thing she fears the most or will she ultimately change her own destiny? We're definitely looking forward to seeing more of Wanda soon.

Elizabeth Olsen returns as Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which premieres on March 3, 2022.
