Every zombie apocalypse has to start somewhere, right? For Army of the Dead, as promised, Netflix released the opening 15 minutes of the film which shows how it all started and where. It's really off to a bloody start, to say the least, and with only a few minutes out in the open, it would just make you want to watch more of the zombie action.

Just from the outskirts of Las Vegas, a group of military men were sent to check out a possible threat which turns out to be, you all have guessed it, zombies. As a zombie slaughters most of the team, it proceeds to Vegas where zombies infiltrated a casino and the rest of the city in the tune of Viva Las Vegas. It was rather an odd comical opening sequence but it sure works as the film seems fun in a stylishly absurd manner.

It proceeds to show snippets of the life of every character consisting of Dave Bautista, Matthias Schweighöfer, Omari Hardwick, Theo Rossi, Ana De La Reguera, Ella Purnell, Huma Qureshi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Samantha Win, Rich Cetrone, Nora Arnezeder, Raúl Castillo, and Garret Dillahunt.

The return of director Zack Snyder in the zombie genre after years of being away from it, with his last zombie film being in 2004 with Dawn of the Dead, Army of the Dead seems to show the same promise a zombie apocalypse film set in the heart of Las Vegas where a group of mercenaries would try to pull off the most ambitious and deadly heist they will ever take in their whole life.

Just before the release of the first film, it already secures a prequel film titled Army of Thieves which would focus on the early days of the zombie outbreak.

Army of the Dead premieres via Netflix on May 21, 2021.
