Seven Deadly Sins might not be the highest-rated anime in databases such as MyAnimeList but it definitely has a loyal following, a fact evident in its so far 5 seasons – more about that in a bit. With its 24-episode fifth season airing as part of the Winter 2021 anime season, some fans might already wonder: will there be a season 6 of Seven Deadly Sins?

As of July 2021, there is no release date for Season 6. It looks like Season 5 is truly going to be the last. At least, most fans can now enjoy it! Since June 28, 2021, Season 5 is available on Netflix, so make sure to catch up!

First, a little overview: Seven Deadly Sins is an anime series based on Nakaba Suzuki’s manga of the same name. The story takes place in a medievalist world, in which the Holy Knights of Britannia could protect their kingdom through extremely powerful magic. Things turn sour when some of these knights turn against their own and betray the country… but the truth is more complicated than that.

The Holy Knights seemingly defeated those who threatened the land’s prosperity but even though the dangerous knights known as the “Seven Deadly Sins” are presumed dead legends about them refuse to die. A decade after the supposed defeat of the “Seven Deadly Sins,” the Holy Knights take over, introducing a tyrannical rule against their people.

From there, we follow Elizabeth, a princess from the Kingdom of Liones who isn’t ready to leave her home to the mercy of the Holy Knights. Instead, she embarks on a quest to find the legendary “Seven Deadly Sins,” righting some wrongs in her unjust world along the way.

Will There Be a Season 6 of The Seven Deadly Sin 1

You might see the current Seven Deadly Sins season referred to as season 4 instead of 5; this is because the second “season” was just OVAs – anime episodes distributed in physical form without even being broadcast on live TV. But Netflix, which holds the streaming rights of the show, classifies the current season as the 5th, so we are going with that to avoid confusion.

The question then is whether a Seven Deadly Sins Season 6 is on the table: as is the case with most anime shows, soon after the airing of a season is too soon to tell for sure if a new season is possible unless we’re talking about extremely popular anime. Most studios have a tight schedule and are booked for the next 2 seasons at least, meaning that months or even years can pass before an official announcement; at this point, we can only speculate.

Will There Be a Season 6 of The Seven Deadly Sin 2

We have good and bad news for fans. The bad news is that season 5 isn’t far from finishing adapting the completed manga. It doesn't help that season 5 has been marketed as the final arc. The good news? This isn’t the end of all possibilities.  The manga ending left some room for a possible new season, while a manga spin-off titled Nanatsu no Taizai: Mokurshiroku no Yon-Kishi or Seven Deadly Sins: the Four Knights of Apocalypse has started being serialized since January 2021.

The above means that if the creators do decide on a new Seven Deadly Sins Season, they will likely have enough material, provided by the sequel if not from the original. We will update this space with more information if an official announcement is made.

Meanwhile, great anime whose newest season will air during the Spring 2021 season include My Hero Academia Season 5 and Fruits Basket Season 3
