Is The Seven Deadly Sins Manga Complete, Finished, or Ongoing? Here is the Current Status of the Light Novel and Manga

The Seven Deadly Sins is a high fantasy isekai anime where the third princess of Liones, Princess Elizabeth Lioness, pursued to convince the Seven Deadly Sins who disbanded a decade ago after being framed for a coup versus the Liones Kingdom. The taint on their name was brought about by the demon Fraudrin who manipulated the Holy Knights to free the Demon Race from imprisonment.

In hopes of clearing their name and needing help to liberate the kingdom of Liones from the Holy Knights and Fraudrin, Princess Elizabeth approached the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas, to find the other members and re-group to achieve their goal.

In their battle of the Seven Deadly Sins against the Ten Commandments who was led by Zeldris, brother of Meliodas, it was revealed that the true identity of Meliodas is being the cursed son of the Demon King, and his destiny is intertwined with that of Elizabeth.

The Seven Deadly Sins include characters that are highly complex with multi-layered mythologies and it has had various changes over the years with the production company turnover from A-1 Pictures to Studio DEEN in The Seven Deadly Sins: Imperial Wrath of the Gods and onwards. Currently, in its fifth season, The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement has lined up 24 episodes.

The Seven Deadly Sins is based on the Japanese fantasy shōnen manga series of Nakaba Suzuki which was published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine where the chapters were compiled within forty-one tankōbon volumes. Kodansha USA licensed the manga series for the English release where every volume will be released once every two months.

The manga series of the Seven Deadly Sins ran from October 2012 and concluded in the 2020 issue #17 of Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2020. The Seven Deadly Sins manga series has already been completed in March 2020 as announced by Suzuki himself that the manga will only have one volume left, marking its end.

It started as a one-shot pilot chapter released in the 2011 issue #52 issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine and because of this, the manga series boomed and started its serialization in 2012. Over the years, it sprung spin-offs and a sequel.

The Seven Deadly Sins and Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail had a crossover in 2013. In 2014, a one-shot spin-off manga 2014 featured the first time Hawk and Meliodas met. In 2015, two spin-offs were also produced. The following year, Juichi Yamaki's Mayoe! The Seven Deadly Sins Academy! was released as a spin-off of reimagining the characters as high school students.

The Seven Deadly Sins: King's Road to Manga by Masataka Ono was a spin-off depicting the king as someone who wants to be a manga artist. The direst sequel manga was announced in November 2020 titled Four Knights of the Apocalypse published in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine on January 27, 2021, and simultaneously published in English under Kodansha USA. This one is currently ongoing.

The manga series did not just end there, Mamoru Iwasa wrote a novel Seven Days published in Shōnen Magazine Edge released from January 17 to September 2017. It had a sequel illustrated by Yō Kokukuji titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Seven Days ~The Thief and the Holy Girl~.

The Seven Deadly Sins has been a popular name in the manga industry as it is one of the best-selling manga series in years. In 2014, it was the fifth-best manga series for male readers under the survey of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! and in the same year, it was nominated under the category of the Best Youth Comic in the Manga Taishō award and in the 42nd Angoulême International Comics Festival held in France.

In circulation, the first volume ranked 13th in the Oricon Manga chart, the second volume ranked 5th, and the third volume ranked 4th. It was hailed as the 9th best-selling manga of 2014. It even notched the first spot as the best-selling manga series in the first half of 2015 and when the year is over, it ranked 2nd, bested by One Piece. It ranked 6th in 2016 and 7th in 2017. It was consistent in the top charts.

The anime series did not fall behind either. In 2017, Seven Deadly Sins scored the fourth most binge-watched show within its 24-hour release on Netflix. To date, the anime series has been critically acclaimed by various sites such as Anime News Network and Otaku USA.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon's Judgement airs weekly via Netflix every Wednesday at 5:55 AM JST/ 3:55 PM EST with a simultaneous release on Funimation.
