Since MARS RED started airing earlier into the spring 2021 anime season, it has always been artistically sound, unique, and beautiful to watch. With its source material being a stage reading play, each episode of the historical horror anime felt like a theater act, often leading to a moving denouement that would get you thinking, even if the plot itself didn't.
That being said, no episode had moved me as much as the first, until Episode 6 came to match it in emotional intensity. MARS RED Overview and Episode 6 Recap
MARS RED episode 6 was a major turning point, so if you haven't watched it, we suggest you do so before you tread any further. The episode starts with Aoi coming face to face with a vampire and resolving to study them and cover her findings in the newspaper. At first, her partner disagrees and doesn't believe her, but the proof will come up to change his mind later on.
Back in the base, Nakajima reveals the full extent of his agenda. Wanting to save the lives of as many young people as possible, he created a secret army of vampires so that he can always have immortal bodies at his disposal. Rather than using soldiers who turned into vampires through some kind of misfortune, he actively created them using Ascra.
There's only one thing left for him to fulfill his plan: for Maeda himself to become a vampire. Maeda considers it, as he still feels he owes his life to Nakajima, but recalls that Misaki asked him to stop the man. Nakajima reveals Misaki was his daughter, whom he intended to marry off to Maeda and have them both support him.
Yamagami and Kurusu try to stop Maeda from drinking the Ascra, when an Earthquake crashes the building. Maeda survives but is buried under the ruins which crush his legs. He and Yamagami share some heartwarming moments while the latter tries to free him before he is burnt to death, as the hole in the ceiling exposes him to the sun.
Sad as it might be, Yamagami's passing leaves the viewer with a sense of peace. This man was not meant for the vampire life and knowing that he did not mind dying. But how serious are Maeda's injuries? Will he survive them, or will Ascra be his only choice? And what role do Aoi and her newspaper - which will now focus on vampires - have to play?
MARS RED Episode 7Release Date
MARS RED airs every Tuesday on Funimation. Episode 6 will be released on Tuesday the 18th of May for premium Funimation users. You might be able to access the episode from Monday the 17th of May, depending on your time zone.
Those streaming Funimation shows for free will have to wait until the 25th of May for the newest episode, but episode 6 will have become available to everyone by the 18th.
