James Gunn's jaw-dropping arrival to the DC Extended Universe is a massive game-changer for the franchise that still hasn't seen its best days. And while some fans were initially apprehensive with his involvement in the franchise, fearing that it will lead to another Joss Whedon scenario for Warner Bros., the positive reactions The Suicide Squad has been getting ahead of its global premiere this week is enough proof that Gunn is indeed a team player despite his ties with Marvel.

However, not everyone in the DCEU fandom is thrilled with the attention Gunn has been getting, and shockingly enough, of all people, Zack Snyder's fans have apparently been causing havoc all over the internet and are ganging up against the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker. In fact, there have been rumors circulating online that diehard supporters of the director and the SnyderVerse movement have been review-bombing The Suicide Squad.

Turns out, Gunn is aware of what's happening and he finally broke his silence after a fan pointed out the Snyder's "supporters" have been displaying toxicity online. Responding to a tweet from user @hydeandgeek, Gunn pretty much implied that he's not bothered by the negativity thrown his way by some DC fans.

Despite the toxic behavior of some fans, Gunn still defended the fandom and said that most of the Snyder fans he's encountered have been very supportive of his debut project for the DCEU. Check out the director's response below:

It's long been debated that WB and DC Films are the ones to blame for the DCEU becoming a convoluted mess and while that's actually true, we can't overlook the fact that there are indeed fans who choose to be toxic instead of being 100% supportive of the franchise. That's what I don't get. They want the DCEU to succeed so bad but they're attacking the franchise's own projects just because it's not Snyder-labeled. Fans need to unite for once.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on August 5, 2021. It will also be available on the same day on HBO Max.
