There is a lot of confusion about The Suicide Squad since it is sometimes referred to like Suicide Squad 2 or simply Suicide Squad like the 2016 film. However, it's actually a little bit of both.

The Suicide Squad is a standalone sequel to the 2016 movie. It is described as a "relaunch" considering that it will not be a direct sequel to the first Suicide Squad film. Instead, it is set to take the franchise in a new direction but will still keep most of the original cast.
