The famed Snyder Cut of Justice League is hitting HBO Max this March and it's pretty evident that director Zack Snyder has one thing in mind — redemption. Over the last couple of months, Snyder has been dropping a lot of hints that his cut of the film could be on the verge of getting an R-rating, with the 4-hour film featuring a lot of violence and profanity.
Now, we can officially confirm that the Snyder Cut will indeed be Rated R. According to a new listing from Film Ratings (via The Direct), the film has received the rating from the MPAA but only for its HBO Max release.
The said listing also includes a description stating that the Snyder Cut is "Rated R For Violence and Some Language". We've yet to get official word from DC and Warner Brothers whether the international release of the highly anticipated project could also be getting the same rating or not.
It's great that Snyder is finally getting his way with things after the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League experienced a lot of meddling from WB executives, not to mention Joss Whedon changing the entire tone of the project. I'm totally excited to see the director's road to redemption and I'm really hoping that this project will end up being triumphant.
Although Snyder's future in the DC Extended Universe looks to be uncertain for now, the potential success of JL could very well dictate whether or not he stays in the franchise.
Something tells me though that his days in the DCEU are far from over as he's clearly teasing a sequel. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
