In the latest chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the villain Code from the organization Kara revealed his ultimate plan to destroy the entire world, and it invovles cultivating the Divine Tree so he can procure a chakra fruit and let the tree devour all the chakra of the world. Sounds familiar? If you nodded yes, that's probably because you've seen Dragon Ball Z: Tree of Might.
In the 1990 anime film, the Saiyan Turles plants the eponymous tree on Earth to harvest its fruit that will grant immeasurable power to whoever consumes it. However, in order to procure the magical fruits, the tree has to suck its world dry of all nutrients, turning the planet into a desert wasteland.
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 62, Code attacks Kawaki, then tells him his ultimate plan to cultivate his own Tree of Might. Kawaki was raised by members of Kara to serve as the future vessel for their god Isshiki Otsutsuki, but he had escaped Kara's hold and gone to reside at Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Villege. Following the death of Isshiki, Kawaki became filld with despair, and knew that Code would eventually seek vengeance on Naruto, Boruto, Sasuke, and the rest of Konaha for killing Isshiki. So Kawaki managed to escape through the village's Sensory Net to ask Code to spare the village.
After hearing Kawaki beg to spare Konoha, Code tells him that although he plans to kill Naruto and his other targets, he has bigger plans to fulfill the wishes of the late Isshiki. The villain wants to plant the Divine Tree that will absorb all of the world's chakra, nearly killing everyone and everything on it. He went on to say that he will procure the tree's chakra fruit, but he didn't say whether or not he plans to consume it.

It's easy to see the similarities between Boruto's Chakra Tree and the Dragon Ball Z movie's Tree of Life, which only appeared in one film that's not condiered canon. It would be interesting to see if writers Ukyō Kodachi and Masashi Kishimoto will bring more elements from Akira Toriyama's shonen franchise in Boruto, but let's just hope that Naruto and his allies will stop Code from growing the Chakra Tree.
