Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga illustrated and written by Koyoharu Gotouge. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Avid fans can collect the chapters of the manga in 23 tankobon volumes. International fans can read the manga as it was published by Viz Media in English.
With the popularity of Demon Slayer, it was adapted into an anime. It aired from April to September 2019 and had 26 episodes. It was followed by a sequel film called Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train in October 2020. Both the anime and manga received great feedback. In fact, the manga sold more than 150 million copies in circulation.
As mentioned, the manga and anime of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is loved by anime fans that its franchise already had an estimated sales of $2.6 billion as of December 2020 in Japan. The manga is considered the tenth best-selling manga of all time while the anime received a lot of awards and critical acclaim.
Now the question, “Is the manga and the anime the same?” the answer is yes. It is actually a mirror adaptation. The only difference between the two is that the series has animation and sounds while the manga does not. But the storytelling and pacing are the same.
The anime did a great job at giving life to Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the rest of the characters. Whether the fan will read the manga or watch the anime, they will feel the same emotions: sorrow, happiness, and motivation from the characters.
So in terms of art, storytelling, and character development, fans no longer need to wonder if they should pick the manga or the anime. Both are basically the same with minor differences like the manga is done and season 2 of the anime is coming real soon.
