Zoe Saldana Makes History with Avatar 2's Major Box Office Milestone

Yesterday, Avatar: The Way of Water officially crossed the $2 billion mark at the box office according to a report from Variety. As a result, the sequel is now the sixth highest-grossing film of all time with the possibility of overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War in the coming days.

There is no doubt that the film's recent box office achievement is a big deal for cinema and the people involved in the film since it shows that the global audience really loves it and the appeal of Avatar is still very much present despite the 13-year gap from the first one.

The film's box office milestone is not just an achievement for director James Cameron, who now has three billion-dollar grossing films in his career. It's also significant for its star Zoe Saldana since she is now the first ever actor to star in four films that crossed $2 billion at the box office.

Besides Avatar: The Way of Water, she also starred in the first Avatar film (currently the highest-grossing of all time) and has major supporting roles as Gamora in the MCU films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

This is certainly an achievement for the actress' impressive career since she can now claim the throne of the "box office queen" given how she is one of the main stars of the four films and, despite her recent comments about her franchise involvements, this is a great addition to her resume.

Since Avatar is set to release more sequels in the coming years, this might not be the end of the road for Saldana and we might see her set the record again in the third film. If we also see her star in the upcoming two Avengers films and gross more than $2 billion as well, it would also help her extend the record.
