It is definitely a huge win for James Cameron as Avatar: The Way of Water's global box office passes through the $2 billion mark as not only would his film climb up the ranks of the highest-grossing films of all time, to date, he is the only director to have three films in this tier.

Avatar: The Way of Water continues to live up to the expectations and the groundwork laid down by its predecessor Avatar when it reached the $2 billion mark. Avatar currently sits as the highest-grossing film of all time after its re-release with $2.9 billion at the global box office.

The other James Cameron film in the $2 billion range at the global box office is his very first highest-grossing film, Titanic. It is truly a huge win for James Cameron and the rest of his team.

Avatar: The Way of Water remains a bright spot in Cameron's works since its production budget before marketing sat at $400 million, and with such a huge return, further movies of the Avatar universe are already secured.

Avatar: The Way of Water takes everyone back to Pandora with an introduction of new clans, familiar foes, and a totally different perspective after the first Avatar film. In Avatar 3, it is expected that the movie will be exploring the Na'vi people and the planet more as they continue to fight the Sky People.

The sequel also introduces new characters that could potentially expand the narrative moving forward with the family of Jake Sully and Neytiri being at the center of all of it.

Avatar: The Way of Water is still in theaters worldwide.
