As we all know and are very much aware of, new DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have been pretty dedicated to ensuring their plan to reconstruct the DCU would go ahead smoothly, amongst the plans on recasting some classic old heroes. However, Shazam! Fury of the Gods doesn’t seem to be on the list on the new DC slate. Shazam! 2 star Zachary Levi defends that his franchise still has a place in the new DCU.
“Listen, I’ve talked to Peter [Safran] a good bit, we’re gonna talk more on this tour.” Levi said while recently speaking with Entertainment Tonight, “Certainly, the idea is to continue the character, this world. It’s a really enjoyable extension of the DCU. It has DNA that a lot of the other characters and extensions don’t necessarily have because we are a more family [movie]... [That] kind of franchise comes with a lot of fun.”

Apart from Shazam! Fury of the Gods not necessarily bumping up any potentially major plots for the DCU films, Levi continued on to say how the franchise wouldn’t hurt to just have a little fun with their Shazamily-themed film.
“It’s a throwback to… stuff like [The] Goonies and Indiana Jones and all those things that evoke that kind of adventure in you,” Levi said, “What they’ve said is that what we’ve done in these two Shazam movies doesn’t contradict anything they’re doing with their new plans, which is great. It means that you could do Shazam movies if you wanted to. We’ll see how that all works out.”
It is worth mentioning that Levi’s dream of hopefully reprising his role for a long while highly depends on the audiences’ reception of the sequel, according to Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg. So I guess only time can tell if and when Levi and the Shazamily will continue to grace our screens in the future of the DCU.
