It has been a long time since we got any updates on the two Yu Yu Hakusho original video animation (OVA) features. Although it was confirmed three years ago that Two Shot and All or Nothing are getting an English dub at Funimation, plans may have been delayed because of the Crunchyroll merge. Luckily, it looks like the OVAs are going to begin recording soon and the original English dub voice cast is set to return!
The intel comes from Cynthia Cranz, who had provided the English dub voice for Botan in the original anime. Cranz confirmed in a tweet that recording for the two OVAs will be starting soon.
This is great news considering that the English dub for the Yu Yu Hakusho OVAs was been delayed for a long time. Although Two Shot and All or Nothing were released back in 2018, both have yet to get an English dub on Funimation. The English dub was announced in 2019 with Justin Cook and Christopher R. Sabat confirming their return as Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara, respectively.
The two OVAs were first featured in the Yu Yu Hakusho Blu-ray box set. It adapts the Two Shot bonus chapter from Volume 7 and the manga's penultimate chapter All or Nothing.
The English dub of the new Yu Yu Hakusho OVAs has not yet been given an official release date. However, it is expected to drop sometime in October in time to celebrate the anime's 30th anniversary. Hopefully, we'll also get an update on the planned live-action Netflix series soon.
Yu Yu Hakusho first aired in October 1992 and is based on the manga by Yoshihiro Togashi. The anime follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child's life.
Yusuke undergoes several tests in the afterlife and is revived then appointed an Underworld Detective. His job investigating supernatural cases puts him in the path of an old schoolmate Kazuma Kuwabara, the fox demon Kurama, and the sword-wielding fire demon Hiei who help him with the investigations.
For now, details about the special Yu Yu Hakusho 30th anniversary project have not yet been shared. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
