You has returned to Netflix for its fourth season and it's already got its viewers hooked.

Now that Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) is in London to assume a new identity (hello, Professor Jonathan Moore), we also get to meet a bunch of new characters that join him in this season.

And just as Joe gets (unwillingly) brought into the inner circle by his neighbor/colleague Malcolm (played by Stephen Hagan), people start turning up dead. The first murder is none other than Malcolm himself, who happens to turn up dead on Joe's dining table with a dagger into his heart and a missing finger. With no recollection of the previous night, thanks to Absinthe, Joe can't help but think he has fallen back into his murderous plight.

He quickly dismembers the body and dumps it into the River Thames and tries to move on from the incident. Unfortunately, he starts receiving a text from a messaging app that was installed on his phone from the night Malcolm was killed. We later learn that the real killer is using the app to communicate with Joe, especially since the messages disappear once they've been read. So what is this app that the real killer is using in You Season 4 Part 1?

The app is called Evanesce, which makes perfect sense for what the idea behind the app is about.

The literal meaning of Evanesce is quickly fading or disappearing, which is what happens to the messages sent from the app. Once the message has been read by the recipient, it vanishes and gets deleted.

The true killer from You Season 4 uses the app to tease Joe and try to frame him for the first murder. After seeing his reaction from the murder, the killer is intrigued by Joe and decides to dig more dirt on who he truly is.

He later discovers Joe's true identity and blackmails him into working together. Otherwise, he will frame Joe with all the body parts of his victims that he collected.

Will Joe give in? Who is the real killer in You Season 4? We'll know more in future episodes. But for now, let's talk about the app.

Technically, the app, Evanesce, itself isn't real. But there have been a number of apps that has the same functionality as Evanesce. The disappearing messages are sent from unidentifiable accounts, which make it impossible to do a reverse look-up.

In essence, there are plenty of other apps quite similar to Evanesce's disappearing nature and there have also been messaging apps that have been encrypted. But no such messaging app has existed that combined these two features of Evanesce.

The apps that are closest to Evanesce include WhatsApp, Cover Me, Confide, Wickr, and Snapchat-- which all have message self-destruct features. Out of this collection, Confide, is probably the one that is closest to Evanesce's immediate deletion, automatic timer setting, and sleek design. The app reveals messages line by line and prohibits taking a screenshot.

If you are interested in using the app, you can check out the Confide app.
