Wonder Egg Priority is an originalanime by Studio CloverWorks, written by Shinji Nojima. It follows Ai Ooto, who is devasted following the suicide of her best friend, Koito. In her dream world, she becomes a magical girl capable of saving people who have committed suicide and setting them free. For each person she frees, she comes closer to saving Koito.

Soon, she's joined by Neiru, Rika, and Momoe, three very different girls, who only have one something in common: they've all lost a friend to suicide and believe the dream world of wonder eggs will allow them to reunite.

Warning: If you haven't watched Wonder Egg Priority Episode 10 yet, you might want to skip to the next session as there will be spoilers here.

While Ai is our main protagonist, each of the girls had had at least one episode devoted to their particular struggles - apart from Momoe. Episode 10 was her moment to shine, but at a cost.

The episode started with Momoe having a date with a boy - something she was enthusiastic about. Since her character was first introduced, Momoe has been repeatedly mistaken for a boy, much to her frustration. Due to her physique and her dismay when she's treated as a boy, many viewers assume Momoe is a trans girl, and Episode 10 shows plenty of evidence.

Momoe's sexuality is not dwelt on, but it is evident that she is currently more interested in dating boys. Unfortunately, her date doesn't go as planned. The boy who used to be her pen pal immediately misgenders her when they meet face to face, much to her frustration.

Meanwhile, Rika and the others confront Acca and Ura-Acca about their relationship with Neiru's assistant and her company as a whole. It turns out that the two mannequin-like entities used to be humans, and members of the society of extremely intelligent individuals to which Neiru herself belongs. In a way that's not analyzed, they discarded their mortal bodies while keeping their brains intact.

The girls have a lot of questions but they postpone them to talk to Momoe about her date. In the dream world that night, Momoe meets yet another young person who has committed suicide. So far we have seen our main characters saving girls, but this time Momoe comes across a trans boy who was molested by his teacher.

Together, the boy and Momoe defeat the teacher - one of the scariest monsters we've seen in the show if not the scariest. There's a romantic moment in which the boy asks Momoe to wait for him in another life before disappearing. Momoe is left alone wearing the boy's jacket - which has the colors of the trans pride flag - likely suggesting her own identity too.

At that point, a veil is lifted and Momoe sees her friend who committed suicide, but the girl disappears before they can touch. A mysterious girl with a monstrous head appears and tells Momoe her friend is now alive, but Momoe must pay with her own life. Her pet crocodile, Panic, attempts to defend her, but the girl kills him and eats him. Honestly, it's impossible to tell how much more traumatizing the show can get.

The other three girls are told that Momoe completed her mission and wonder why she didn't tell them herself. Ai meets her professor Mr. Sawaki in his art exhibition and gathers up the courage to ask him about Koito's death. Meanwhile, a traumatized Momoe suffers alone at home.

The first Seasonof Wonder Egg Priority will conclude at 12 episodes - the final two will have to be intense and full of answers if we are to make any sense of the show.

You can only watch Wonder Egg Priority in Japanese with English subtitles at the moment. Funimation is famous for its simuldubs, so a dub could follow shortly. Of course, it will be hard to live up to the original, with its amazing voice acting and the nostalgic opening theme, but it will be interesting to compare.
