You Season 4 Part 2 left us with the most dangerous version of Joe Goldberg yet. He has embraced his dark side and now has unlimited resources and access at his disposal, thanks to his new love interest and partner in crime, Kate Galvin/Lockwood. With his newfound power and wealth, this basically means Joe is now unstoppable and can further kill people and get away with it. Even Joe recognizes that he has “many tools now” and that “the killing part is also much easier now."

But when does he get caught? Will Season 5 be the last season of You where we finally see Joe behind bars?

While Netflix’s You hasn’t been renewed for Season 5 yet, in various interviews, You actor Penn Badgley seemingly confirms that Season 5 could be the series’ last.

In an interview with IndieWire, the You star said that a new season needs to be done and that Joe “needs to get what’s coming to him, and now he has to further fall because he has all this power and wealth.”

While Badgley thinks a Season 5 needs to happen, he says that it’s not up to him, but that he knows the creators had Season 5 in mind as its last.

“But of course, that’s not up to me. I don’t know where it’s going. But to me, with this concept and with this character, we always wanted to be responsible and it’s not just the kind of thing we can let keep going because it’s doing well,” the actor said.

“I know the creators of the show always had this next season in mind as its last, should there be another one. And then it will probably be a spectacular resolution because it feels to me like something is in the works by the very end of this season,” he added.

It can be recalled that Badley previously said in a Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he signed a six-year contract for the series. However, he stated that while Netflix could do two more seasons, he thinks “it’s only going to be one.”

Also, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Badgley said that executive producer Greg Berlanti already pitched a possible finale to him and told him how he thought it would end in Season 5.

“…and I thought, ‘yeah, that’s great,'” Badgley said. “Joe, at this point, he’s like a post-modern icon. He’s such a popular dude but, there’s got to be, to me, a more thorough, satisfying conclusion,” Badgley added.

Additionally, in a Tweet, the actor jokingly shares how all the women in Joe’s past would come back to haunt him in Season 5:

The ending of You Season 4 Part 2 gave us the death of Jonathan Moore and the resurrection of Joe Goldberg. While we all thought Season 4 would be a journey of Joe’s path to redemption, with him turning a new leaf and staying away from his murderous tendencies, we actually see Joe embracing “his true self” in the end.

Badgley said that if Netflix does not renew the series for a fifth season, the ending of Season 4 Part 2 isn’t “the conclusion that anybody wants” because it shows that Joe has “effectively won.”

In relation to this, You showrunner Sera Gamble said that the Season 4 finale is not supposed to show the “despair” of watching Joe win. However, she did tease to E! News that if the show were to be renewed for a fifth season, fans would see a “more dangerous” version of Joe.

"We have spent four seasons constructing these characters who are violently wealthy, but not all of them are that smart or that ruthless," Gamble said. "If Joe is all of the things that he is and now has unlimited resources and access, he's become the thing that he envied and judged from afar. It gives us a lot of new opportunities", Gamble added.
