You on Netflix is rated TV-MA, meaning TV Mature Audience only. This program is specifically designed to be viewed by adults, and deemed unsuitable for children under 17. Thus, it may not be appropriate for teenagers to watch the series.

The series contains lots of mature content, gore and violence (Joe is a killer, after all), foul language, lots of sex, and nudity.

As for mature content, there’s a lot of substance abuse. This is heightened in Season 4, as Joe meets a bunch of “friends” constantly doing drugs. There’s lots of alcohol too, and characters get drunk on a frequent basis.

Additionally, sex has always been a part of You. While Season 4 has lesser intimate scenes, the previous seasons of You contain a lot of sex scenes and masturbation. Season 4 does have nudity though, including a full frontal of a man’s private part.

You also contains suicidal content, as Joe often covers up his kills by making it seem like his victims committed suicide. In Season 4, even Joe himself entertains thoughts on the world being a better place without him in it and attempts to kill himself.

The series also contains foul language; there are so many profane words in the series. The foul language comes naturally. The series has no filter on the words used, and you’ll hear lots of swearing.

And of course, there’s violence. Since the main character is a serial killer, it makes sense that the series does have a lot of violent scenes. There’s lots of blood throughout the series because Joe normally kills people. There are many killing scenes and scenes of getting rid of a body. There’s even mutilation. You may find yourself turning your head during these scenes.

You contains a lot of brutality, toxicity, and disturbing content. So it’s not suitable for young people. This is definitely not a family series as well. So what ages can watch the series? Ages 17 and up would be safe.
