A couple of weeks after it first came out, The Diplomat was named one of the best new shows on Netflix this year. It even dethroned The Night Agent, another political drama that came out a month before it.
Now that several have finished watching the show, they are curious to know whether The Diplomat has been renewed for a second season. And if so, when will The Diplomat Season 2 come out?

Will There Be a The Diplomat Season 2?
A few days ago, Netflix revealed that they have ordered another season of The Diplomat. This was an expected decision, especially since the show received a lot of positive feedback.
Netflix's vice president of drama series, Jinny Howe said:
"Fans around the world are loving every minute of The Diplomat’s gripping and propulsive drama, and embracing Keri Russell's powerful performance as Kate Wyler. After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, we can’t wait for them to see what the amazing visionary team of Debora Cahn, Janice Williams and Keri Russell have in store for Season 2.”
Series creator, Debora Cahn, responded to this with:
“We had such a great time making The Diplomat. And it’s a thrill to see how much people are enjoying it. We’re so glad we get to do it again.”
Meanwhile, the show's lead actress and executive producer, Keri Russell, shared her excitement for the renewal:
“I am thrilled to be headed back for another round of this smart screwball show. Dare I say it’s fun?”
When Will The Diplomat Season 2 Be Released?
Right now, there's no word on when The Diplomat Season 2 will be released. Since it's just been less than a month since the show came out, it's possible that the scripts still need to be written.
But unfortunately, there is an ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, which just might cause a delay. Of course, filming and post-production still need to take place after a script is produced.
We don't know for sure when the strike will end. But it's possible that The Diplomat Season 2 will be released by fall or winter 2024.
What Will The Diplomat Season 2 Story Be About?
The Diplomat ended with a huge cliffhanger ending. Kate left Austin at a gala in France after learning that the mercenary leader was ordered by British Special Forces to be killed instead of arrested.
But when Austin caught up with her, they realized that the ship attack was not planned by the mercenaries but by Prime Minister Trowbridge. At the same time, Kate got a call that her husband, Stuart, and Ronnie were injured in the bombing of the MP's car.
We can expect The Diplomat Season 2 to continue with the storyline of this ending. It would also be interesting to see who would survive in the second season and what Kate's future in politics could be.

Since Hal, Stuart, and Ronnie were injured in a bombing, it's unclear whether the actors who play their roles will be back in the second season yet. But since Hal plays a big role in the show, it's possible that Rufus Sewell will be back.

Is There a Trailer for The Diplomat Season 2?
As of this writing, a trailer for The Diplomat Season 2 has not yet been released. Netflix has released a short clip confirming that the show will return for a second season.
