Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway, Higehiro for short, definitely got its viewers hooked with Sayu and Yoshida playing house after an uncanny meeting under a light post in the wee hours of the night, and as the anime series progressed, things get more and more serious and interesting, a lot have been asking whether there would be a season 2 of Higehiro and what to expect when season 1 ends.

Based on the light novel series of the same name by Shimesaba with the illustrations of booota, and on the shōnen manga series by the same author with the illustrations of Imaru Adachi, Higehiro definitely made a great run as an anime series having 13 episodes this anime season. While the light novel series recently ended, the manga series is still ongoing.

Higehiro, animated by Project No.9, follows the story of a 26-year-old employee of a major IT company, Yoshida, whose heart just got broken and he decided to drink his feelings away. While on his way, he saw a drunk girl on the side of the street, beneath a lamplight, Sayu. With nowhere to go, she convinced Yoshida if she could stay with him and despite being hesitant at first, Yoshida agreed.

Will There Be a Season 2 of Higehiro?

Looking at where things are going in the anime series, it seems that there is a 50-50 chance for another season of Higehiro. As of the time of writing, no word is out yet from any parties concerned as regards the second season of Higehiro.

While the series is high on the pedestal in terms of viewer ratings, the main concern would be the ending of the light novel series where it is based. As it is already finished, there could be a lack of source material for another season considering that the anime series could cover the whole light novels until its last episode.

If and when there would be another season, it could be set after the events of the finale but it would not likely be based on the light novels anymore. This could happen though, but given the circumstances, the story might just be an offshoot of what has already been released, and it may not last for one whole season enough to hold more episodes.

The series could end with just one season. With Sayu finally revealing the main reason why she ran away from home, and now, she has been found by her brother who will be taking her back to Hokkaido, confronting her mother and her past, and moving forward. As per whether Yoshida and Sayu would end up together, well, it is highly likely, with Yoshida's decision of coming with her when she gets home and with their feelings for each other brewing, it could definitely be a happy ending.

Higehiro releases new episodes weekly every Tuesday for streaming online on Crunchyroll at 10:30 PM JST/ 6:30 AM PT/ 8:30 AM CT/ 9:30 AM EST/ 2:30 PM BST.
