The story of this anime follows Yoshida, a brokenhearted 26-year-old employee of a major IT company, who, one night, drank his feelings out after being rejected by Airi Goto, a girl he's been unrequitedly in love with for five years. On his way home, he found Sayu, a girl sitting under lamplight in the dead of the night. She ran away from home and is looking for somewhere to stay. Yoshida agreed to let her be with him without any demands in return.

The light novel series of Higehiro was the first to get published. It started in 2017 with the writer Shimesaba and illustrator booota. It started getting published in a user-generated novel publishing website of Kadokawa, Kakuyomu. It then had the chance to be published in print the following year under Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint with four volumes to date.

The light novel series, however, is about to get finished. It was revealed that the light novels will be ending this year with the release of the fifth volume as the last of it on June 1, 2021. To date, there are 400,000 copies of it in circulation.

As for the manga series, it is written by the same writer with the illustrations of Imaru Adachi. The shōnen manga series is published under Kadokawa Shoten's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Ace and it has been in circulation since 2018. There are two tankōbon volumes released to date. Great news for the manga as there is no indication that it will be ending which means it is still ongoing.

The English publication of both the light novels and the manga series is under One Peace Books.
