Will There Be a Black Clover Season 5? What We Know and Predictions

Since first airing in 2017, Black Clover has amassed a hugely passionate fanbase. In a world full of blockbuster shonen anime like My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen et al, Black Clover has a unique place in the hearts of anime fans. That’s why everyone’s waiting for news on whether there will be a Black Clover season 5.

News has been quite thin on the ground since Black Clover stopped airing in 2021, so we’ve done some digging to find what is known and make some educated predictions.

Will There Be a Season 5 of Black Clover?

So far, there has been no official confirmation that Black Clover will return for season 5. However, it's very likely that the TV series will eventually return.

While there was a lot of hype for a Black Clover anime before it aired, the success of the series caught some by surprise. The second season was quickly announced after the first, and a third soon followed.

There was a delay to the series in April 2020 due to COVID, but other than that, the series had achieved an almost faultless run. Then, in February 2021, it was announced that the series would end on its 170th episode at the end of March.

Black Clover Season 5 Release Date

As there has been no season 5 announcement, there is no Black Clover season 5 release date. However, most theories point to the show continuing in 2023 at the earliest, and potentially not until 2024.

After the end of the TV run, a Black Clover movie was announced. so this will happen before any return of the TV series.

Rumours suggest the movie has been hit with production setbacks, which has caused a sizeable gap between the movie's announcement and its release date, especially when compared to the year-long turnarounds of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

After a long delay, the Black Clover movie's release in 2023 was confirmed in March 2022. Assuming there will be a gap between the movie and the TV series’ return, a positive estimate would put season 5 around the Summer or Fall 2023 seasons. However, a later run cannot be ruled out.

Black Clover Season 5 News: What We Know

There is no official news regarding Black Clover season 5. Right now, all we can do is speculate on the reasons why the hit series has fallen into a lull.

One potential issue for the Black Clover series is that, at the end of the TV series, it was quite close to where the source material manga was in terms of the story. The anime series ended at chapter 270 of the manga, which only came out around four months before the episode aired.

Considering that manga chapters usually come out at a rate of one per week, whereas the weekly anime episodes can cover anything from one to three chapters each, it wouldn’t have been very long before the series was beginning to overtake the source material.

All reports and words from the people involved suggest that Studio Pierrot are happy to allow the story to develop as originally intended, giving Yuuki Tabata, who had health problems late last year, the space needed.

Pierrot is one of the most experienced studios in anime when it comes to long-running series, having worked on Naruto, Boruto and Bleach, so they may have agreed to hit the brakes as a long-term decision for the franchise.

Regardless, it’s very likely that the series will be making a return given its success so far. Fans will just be hoping it’s a small-ish break and not what has been experienced by another Pierrot favourite, Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War!
