Chris Rock and Will Smith's chaotic altercation at the 94th Academy Awards would undoubtedly go down in the history as one of the most uncomfortable moments in live television. Following Will Smith's apology through his Instagram account, the critically-acclaimed actor seemingly took his time to reflect and process everything that's happened.
Thankfully, it seems Smith is now back through an apology video posted on his Youtube account to settle things with the public but also to directly apologize to his good friend, Chris Rock.
See the video below:
Smith clarified that he personally reached out to Rock following the Oscars altercation, but the comedian wasn't still ready to talk. "I've reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he's not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out," Will said on the video. "So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I'm here whenever you're ready to talk."
Smith also acknowledged Rock's family, especially his mother and brother – Rose and Tony Rock, who were blatantly vocal about the humiliation Smith brought to their family. "So I want to apologize to Chris's mother; I want to apologize to Chris's family, specifically Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This is probably irreparable."
Sadly, Smith's career was already affected by his shocking behavior at the Oscars. Aside from being banned from The Academy for 10 years, some studios terminated their ties with the actor, halting most of his upcoming projects.
For Chris Rock's side of things, the comedian recently referenced the Oscars slap in his latest stand-up show with Kevin Heart. Saying that "Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face," as reported by Us Weekly.
Chris Rock hasn't yet officially responded to Will Smith's apology video.
