Jada Pinkett Smith Hopes for Will Smith and Chris Rock's Reconciliation

Critically-acclaimed actor Will Smith shocked everyone when he climbed on stage at 2022's Academy Awards and slapped comedian Chris Rock following a joke that referenced Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia. Sadly, this violent behavior of Smith caused him to be banned from the Academy for ten years, and many of Smith's upcoming projects were halted due to the slapping incident.

Even though Smith had already apologized for his inappropriate behavior and directly offered an apology to Chris Rock on his Instagram account, Rock wasn't very vocal about the altercation. And after two days since the slapping incident, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has been in the middle of the controversy released a statement and said, "This is a season for healing and I'm here for it." Fortunately, Jada recently offered a more concrete reaction to the controversy.

In a new episode of Pinkett Smith's Red Table Talk series, Jada highlighted her autoimmune disorder Alopecia and talked to some individuals struggling with the same disease. In the episode, Jada also took the opportunity to weigh in on the Oscars altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock.

"Now, about Oscars night: My deepest hope is that these two intelligent capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile," Jada said. "With the state of the world today, we need them both—and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that's keep figuring out this thing called life together."

Based on Jada's statement, it appears that Rock and Smith haven't spoken yet after the Oscars altercation, and the two actor's relationship status remains unknown. It's still also unclear if Smith somehow attempted to personally apologize to Rock.

The Oscars slapping incident evidently took a tremendous toll on Smith's career after he was banned from the Oscars for ten years. Aside from that, Smith's upcoming projects were pulled out following the slapping incident. While it's still unclear how the veteran actor will rise to the situation and reclaim his career, reconciliation might be the wisest first step for Smith.
