Much like star-crossed lovers who have each others' back whatever happens, Mal and Alina went through hell and back after everything that they had been through from the start until the end of Shadow and Bone Season 2. As the decided to part ways, will they meet again?

Will Mal and Alina Meet Again After Shadow and Bone Season 2?
Throughout the series, the romance between Mal and Alina has been heavily set up into being the endgame where they actually fall in love with each other after everything that they had been through, but their tragic fate leaves them torn in Shadow and Bone Season 2.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 presented Alina looking for all of the amplifiers and finding out that the last one is actually the love of her life, Mal, who has been the Firebird all along. She had to kill her one true love to save Ravka and eradicate the Shadow Fold.
Mal dies, Alina gets amplified on her own and she puts down the Fold. She calls on Nina to help her revive Mal but Nina knew it was too late, thus, Alina uses merzost to bring Mal back to life. Nina knew that, too, but decided to only reveal it to some.

After that, Mal returns to life without his tracking abilities and he felt different, as if not pulled towards Alina anymore. His purpose, after all, had ended. Mal decides to take on the life of a privateer, being Sturmhond, and sails away.
Should they be meant for each other, Mal said that they would meet again and would be the "true north." While this ending of Shadow and Bone Season 2 seems to be establishing a third season, this isn't hos the books told their story.
In the books, Mal and Alina actually ended up together and after what happened in the elimination of the Fold, Mal and Alina both faked their deaths to retire in the orphanage they found each other and live a quiet life.
The show did not choose this path but setting up Mal and Alina through two seasons is surely not something that they'd let go to waste. It is expected that, should there be a third season, Mal and Alina would meet again, and hopefully, this time, it would be for good.
