Shadow and Bone follows the story of Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li), a cartographer who finds out that she has sun-summoning powers. This gift makes her a member of a magical community of people called the Grisha.
Her powers can obliterate the Shadow Fold, a malevolent force filled with monsters called volcra that divides her country in half. General Aleksander Kirigan (Ben Barnes), the leader of the Second Army, is interested in Alina's powers. Season 2 will explain how the Darkling survived the Shadow Fold.
The Darkling is the powerful villain known as General Kirigan, the leader of the Second Army made up of Grisha. He's also a seemingly all-powerful Shadow Summoner.
Shadow and Bone Season 1 revealed that Kirigan is the one who created the Shadow Fold that divides Ravka. His ultimate plan is to expand its darkness and gain more control and power while doing it. Alina, Mal, and the Crows team-up to stop him during an epic battle in the season finale.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 is expected to have Alina diving deeper into her powers and hopefully, eliminate the Shadow Fold. However, this would not be an easy job because with the Darkling still alive and expanding the darkness, it would be a challenge for her.
Also, many fans are looking forward to Shadow and Bone Season 2 to bring out the legends and myths to life. Similar to Alina who was once a legend to them, there are other creatures that belong to the same category and it would be great to see them in the second season.
