It’s not just another rock band story from the 70s. Sure, band stories and fallouts are common; we see this today. The lead singer struggles with fame and becomes an alcoholic or a drug addict; a band member says the band is only about the lead singer; and romances involved within the band.

But there are many things that separate Daisy Jones & The Six from the rest, and it would make watching the series worth your time.

The Different Meanings of Family in Daisy Jones & The Six

Daisy Jones & The Six explores complexities in a family. Daisy was a rich kid who had everything in life except her parent’s love. As a child, she wanted to be a singer but her parents never supported her. They even become annoyed when they hear her sing. Her own mother tells her that no one wants to hear her voice and that Daisy was put on earth just to embarrass her. So growing up, Daisy felt like an inconvenience to her own mother. She even identifies herself as an orphan throughout her success.

On the other hand, Billy was abandoned by his father at a young age, and it hurt him so badly because his father was someone he looked up to. He sees his father years later, but his father refuses to acknowledge him as a son.

Both Billy and Daisy struggle with family issues, but they find their family in people they aren’t related to. They struggled with the lack of a father figure, but they find this father figure in Teddy Price, Daisy Jones & The Six’s music producer. They also find family in the band. Billy finds brotherhood with the boys of the band. Daisy, at first, finds herself questioning her place in the band, but Camila assures her that they’re her family too. Daisy, later on, comes to love the band as her own family.

The series explores different aspects of family. We see Daisy and Billy’s family issues, but we also see loving family relationships, such as Camila and her mom’s mother-daughter relationship, Camila’s relationship with her own daughter, and Billy and Graham’s sibling relationship.

There are many strong female characters in the series. Camila goes through motherhood at a young age, and her story is a good portrayal of the struggles of being a young mom. On the other hand, we have Karen, the keyboardist of the band, who has a very strong personality and wants to represent women in the male-dominated world of rock and roll.

Daisy also finds herself learning to be independent and breaking the pattern of men taking advantage of her. After her former fling, Wyatt Stone, claims her song “Stumbled on Sublime” as his, she decides to make her own talent known to the world. The same goes for her best friend and only friend, Simone, who becomes a successful singer too.

There isn’t just one love story in this series; there’s quite a number actually. But the love triangles and all the romances aren’t your typical kind of romance. The relationship dynamics are portrayed in an interesting and unique way.

For one, you can compare the romances Billy had with Camila and Daisy. You would see how he’s had this mature and unconditional love with Camila; while with Daisy, she was like his mirror and soulmate, but it just wasn’t right because both of them were a mess struggling with fame and personal issues.

There’s also an LGBTQ romance between Simone and Bernie, where they deal with the struggles of having a lesbian relationship during the 70s. And then we have Karen and Graham, where there’s an attraction between the two, but Karen is reluctant on pursuing a relationship with him because people might think that she got into the band because she slept with one of its members.

You’ll surely see love in many forms through the relationships in this series.
