In The Walking Dead season 9 episode 3 titled Warning Signs, Father Gabriel confronts Jadis' motives behind him and Rick.

Jadis planned on trading Father Gabriel and Rick Grimes for some supplies to survive for her own kind, her own group.

Despite Jadis' promise to help Gabriel and wants him to join her, Gabriel doesn't. This leads Jadis to knock him out in the middle of the night.

By the next morning, Gabriel is tied to the floor with Jadis holding a Walker zombie with a bucket on its head. However, before she can let the Walker bite into the tied-up priest, she renders him unconscious yet again.

It remains to be seen as to why Jadis simply let Gabriel loose, other than the fact they used to have feelings for one another. Perhaps even out of guilt.

However, this 'guilt' doesn't go on for much longer... at least until the spinoff series showed us why.

There was another moment, as shown in The Ones Who Live episode 5, in which Jadis betrays Gabriel once more after holding a heart-to-heart conversation with him. This time, Jadis was working undercover for the CRM.

Despite Gabriel seemingly wanting to make Jadis feel better, she doesn't see eye-to-eye with what he wants in life.

Gabriel may have been open to hearing her out on what the CRM does, but with Jadis running out of time and not wanting to have any "loose ends" from her past, she lets a Walker come loose, all while appearing to be shooting him.

However, the episode tricked viewers into thinking so.

Because what happened is, even though Jadis knew she had to deliver a dead A to the CRM, she couldn't let Father Gabriel be that cargo.

Instead, she let him escape and chose to betray and sacrifice her friendship with Rick Grimes. This is when The Ones Who Live started.
