At the end of You Season 4 Part 1, avid fans got the thrill of their lives when they saw a You Season 4 Part 2 teaser with Love Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti) seemingly alive and well. So even though it was implied that Joe Goldberg's (played by Penn Badgley) wife burned to death in the previous season, many couldn't help but be excited with the possibility that Love may very well be alive and could even be behind the murders after all.
And now that Netflix has released the second part of the show, we're finally getting answers.
So… Is Love Still Alive in You Season 4 Part 2?
Yes and no.
Love is back, as a hallucination of Joe, along with Beck (played by Elizabeth Lail), who was killed in You Season 1.
After it was revealed that Joe has been having a psychotic break and is imagining his entire interactions with Rhys Montrose (played by Ed Speleers), Joe decides to take diazepam so he could shut Rhys out from his thoughts.
And while he manages to shut Rhys out from his thoughts, Joe hallucinates going to Marienne's (played by Tati Gabrielle) cage and tries to get her out after she accidentally consumes peanut oil, something she's allergic to.
As Joe rambles to unlock the cage, he goes through a series of mental episodes where he first meets Gemma (played by Eve Austin), Guinevere Beck, and lastly, Love.
These characters aren't really there and are only playing with Joe's mind, especially since he killed them in previous episodes.
Why Isn’t Candace Back in You Season 4 Part 2?
Since Beck and Love were both Joe's lovers in previous seasons, we can't help but wonder why Candace Stone (played by Ambyr Childers) isn't part of the lucid dream that Joe had; after all, she was also Joe's lover at one point.
But this very simple fact explains why Candace isn't part of that trippy montage: Joe never killed Candace.
In fact, it was Love who killed Candace in You Season 2 by stabbing her in the neck with a piece of broken glass.
So this explains why she isn't part of that scene.
In an interview with TV Insider, Penn Badgley reveals that the return of his former lovers were rewarding for him.
"Joe always has some kind of mind-bending journey at some point, and I was really happy I got to direct that episode. That was really fun for me. Those are always amongst my favorite [scenes] and having [Pedretti and Lail] was just, of course, really nice."
